Italian Revival (1 of 12)

Italian Revival (1 of 12): In the 1920's, the back yards of twenty 19th Century brownstones in Manhattan's East Side were rethought as a full-sun Italian Revival fantasy. In the 1990's, Louis rethought it yet again, so it could thrive in the shade cast by its now-enormous shade trees, let alone the mid-town skyscrapers that ring the neighborhood. At the East end, a huge spitting-head fountain gurgles from May through October. In this sheltered center-of-the-block location, Zone 7 species more typical of, say, Washington DC, are fully at home: Southern magnolia foliage almost canopies over the walkway.
